Description
www.LifestyleHomes.chA unique collector’s item in Davos – a historic Walser house with stables at the foot of the Flüela Pass
Welcome to Davos, to the idyllic little village at 1'804 metres above sea level, where this exceptional collector’s item stands amidst a stunning Alpine landscape. A property that uniquely combines history, authenticity and comfort – created for people who appreciate something special.
This historic Walser house looks back on a centuries-old past. As early as 1300, the Davos Walsers acquired the Flüela Valley from the Bishop of Chur. The building itself was constructed around the year 1700 and remains a testament to traditional architecture and living history to this day.
The upper kitchen, with its vaulted cellar below, suggests that it was originally a residential tower, which was later extended into a multi-generational home.
Upon entering, lovingly preserved details are revealed: Gothic elements in the entrance area, two heated parlours from the 18th century, and the impressive large parlour with a carved Bible panel, an ornate Swiss stone pine coffered ceiling and the meaningful saying:
“I have made my home under God’s roof.”
The cellars, with their traditional milk racks for storing cheese wheels and blocks, bear witness to year-round use and the community’s former self-sufficiency. Around 1800, some 60 people lived in the Flüela Valley – making the house a significant hub of village life.
Historical evidence also suggests that the building served at times as a ‘Suste’ (a trading post for grain and salt). The old pass road ran directly past the house, and even today, embrasures are visible in the wall – silent witnesses to an eventful past.
In recent years, the Walser house has been gently renovated with great respect for its history and a keen eye for detail.
This charming 6-room chalet delights with original features such as floors, doors and staircases, creating a warm, authentic living atmosphere.
